On Monday, we go interesting news from Shopify. Harley Finkelstein announced that with the new iOS17 from Apple we could create a 3D Model of products directly from the Shopify App…
AR is an incredible tool, but right now the process of using it practically as a business is complicated, timely and expensive.
Currently, if you want to make a 3D model for your product, you need either really expensive gear and the technical expertise to create a 3D model or, hire an agency to create one which is expensive and timely and not practical for small to medium businesses, meaning very few brands currently use them. But today that’s changing. In case you missed it, Apple’s #iOS17 just dropped. With this new update, all of our merchants will be able to create 3D models of their products from the palm of their hands in under 20 minutes 🤳
blah blah blah…
We are levelling the playing field so all merchants can create these interactive experiences for their customers. We are just getting started when it comes to spatial commerce. Also from that post:
Lots of supportive comments calling this a gamechanger… which now makes Harley’s character in the DTC Universe, the Gamechanger.
I dig it. Anyway…
Augmentally Challenged
I am not a fan of Augmented Reality in ecommerce. I get that some things like furniture would be a good fit for AR to see what a chair looks like in your home, but for the most part, I’m not sold that it helps the customer experience that much.
But I have never tested it out. I could be entirely wrong.
What do you think?
Will you use this with your products?
Or if not, is there a type of product you shop for that you would like to see AR used on?
PS. “Spatial commerce” is a stupid term, will not catch on, and in reality is like 1 and a half dimensions from being regular Retail
